Melissa and Cassidy were married in the heart of New London, Connecticut—and the magic of their day still lingers like a favorite song you never forget the words to.

It was only the second year of my career as a wedding photographer, and TJ was still by my side as my lovely assistant, learning the rhythm of wedding days before officially stepping into the role of second shooter the following season. We were finding our stride, falling deeper in love with storytelling, and saying yes to every opportunity to witness something beautiful.

Melissa’s wedding gown had the most dramatic pop of sapphire satin—an unforgettable bow that mirrored the deep blue of her bridesmaids’ dresses. The groomsmen wore warm brown suits that grounded the palette in richness and contrast, a perfect complement to the elegant, urban charm of Crocker Ballroom. Every detail sang in harmony, every moment carried intention and warmth.

Going through these images again felt like opening a time capsule. The laughter, the nerves, the sparkle in everyone’s eyes—it’s all still there, tucked into each frame like pressed flowers in a love letter.

And then there’s the memory that still makes me laugh out loud: George Michael’s “Careless Whisper” played, and the dance floor erupted into the most theatrical, over-the-top slow grind I’ve ever witnessed. An instant classic. I’ve yelled every time Deadpool’s tried to claim that moment—sorry, but Melissa and Cassidy’s crew did it first, and better.
